First Day out of hospital bed in two days!

Brody is still having high tempetures and is still breathing fast. But he is feeling much better today and got out of bed for the first time in 2 days. He had lots of fun drawing on the white board. You can see his Autism by not much eye contact with me, his way he expresses his drawing and his way of thinking. I hope you all like watching it, sorry if its on its side.

They have changed meds tonight, so hopefully he will stop having high temps. He is now eating a little bit more. As lovely grandma and grandpa brought him in Mac Donald nuggets with BBQ sauce. Yummy!!!

Starting to get better!!

Brody is starting to get better by the minute. He is still not eating much and having high temps. But he hasn't yet broke his record of 42.0. Which is good! Doctors told us today that the bug is in both his cords now, so they might need to change meds. I am hoping they wont want to take out his cords and put new ones in. Keep your fingers crossed for him!
Otherwise its been a normal day at the jail house, with not much to do!

Didnt have to wait, back in hospital again!

Well we didn't have to wait to see the doctors on Monday as last nite, Brody's breathing got worse and his temp went up to 38.5. So Grandpa drove us down to emergency at 11.00pm. We went in and they took his bloods, started fluids, meds and did a chest x-ray. The doctors on duty were a bit puzzled with him, so she called the head doc for the nite, then she came in and she told me that she was worried, so she called another head doc, that has more experience with children that are having chemo. By the time that head doc came in Brody started to response to every thing.
Brody's breathing was nearly going three times faster than his normal age range. His heart rate was low, he needed oxygen and had high temps, which cause him to hallucinate. At 3.30am he started to get better and could then have a good sleep. Pity there is no bed for parents as i just had to stay awake all night.

About 10.30am they finally transfered us to our normal ward, where we have spent the day watching movies and catching up on our sleep. We found out that Brody has a growth in one of his cords. Therefore we are in hospital now for seven days. Brody is still up and down with temp, breathing and has still got that running nose. He has not eaten any thing today and is very weak. Hopefully the meds will kick in and start fighting this bug.

Clinic Day!

Brody, Grandpa and I went to the clinic today, Brody got his bloods taken and they were very low, so he had to have a platelet transfusion. We went into the doctors office and Brody was very good then usual, until the doctor come in closer to him and wanted to listen to his breathing. But then Brody started pushing her away, and grandpa try to help, but he pushed him away too. Brody then told me that she smelt. Shocked!!! I didn't know what to do, I cant really say sorry my son doesn't want you near him cause your breathe smells!!! I just tried to move his face away while she did it.
I should have know it, as he did it once before to a male doctor, but that time he said it to the doctor. I just said it might be your after shave.

Brody has always had certain sensory issues, as he does not like loud noises, smells and some textures. But now with him not well it seems to be worse. As his senses are effected by the chemo.

Brody levels are still low and we have to go back on Monday to see if he needs any more transfusions. He has still got the runny nose, and now is having trouble with his breathing, as he is breathing quickly and gets worn out very quickly. The doctor did nothing about it and just said he is breathing fast. So i don't know if the breathing is ok. Have to wait till Monday, when we see another doctor.

So, busy day and full of different emotions, as my thoughts were with a friend and family who lost a lovely little boy and had his funeral today. I have had so much hurt, sickness and death in my life the last year and half, i am starting to not believe in this world any more.

Shave for a Cure!

Yesterday at the hospital we had the wonderful Jill come and do some activities with Brody while waiting in the clinic. Brody got his bloods taken first and then we did some behaviour activities with him. Then we had to go into the small little room which Brody hates to see the doctor. Brody was worse then normal as he had been stressed all day about getting a sharpie. He tore the room to shreds, he throw the pillow at the doctor and throw the pencils all over the room. Jill has come up with some great ideas to help with this process.

After the doctor we waited again and after a few attempts from Brody to run off, they finally called us in. The chemo room was packed with other kids, and after the morning Brody had i didn't think it would be great for him to sit in there. So i remined the nurse that he had a running nose so we could get our own room. We did and Brody got his chemo and Blood transfusion in peace. He could sit up in the bed and watch his own movies. An hour before the blood finished two nurses come in and helped me hold him down for the sharpie. Again he hated the whole world, but he soon forgot about it, as i let him go up the see through lift. He loved the ride!
We have to go back on Friday to check his bloods and then back next Wednesday to do chemo all again. Brody's levels are low and still has his running nose. It is getting harder and harder to take him to the hospital as he cries the whole way and then wont get out of the car.

Today Brody's cousins Domenic and Ethan were colouring their hair for shave for a cure at school, which was a gold coin donation. I (Aunty Vicki) gelled their hair up and sprayed it blue and red. Brody also wanted to do this, so i gel the little bit of hair Brody has and sprayed his head. They all looked so cute! Domenic and Ethan told a friend they were doing it for Brody to help him. Love my Boys!!!

Pj Day!

Brody and i have spent the whole day in our PJ's, as we did not do much at all.
Brody woke up this mornig in a happy mood and got so excited to see his cousins Domenic and Ethan. He play playstation for a little while with them until Grandma had to do homework with them. We then said good bye and Brody and i decided to make a cake (well muffins) for Grandpa. So Brody told me he was the cook and i was the mix. But i think it really went the other way around. He then wanted to eat one straight away, before Grandpa even come back from the shop. Brody had to have his muffin and a cup of tea, (which is really Milo).

Brody then started to get tired and we went and had a sleep for a couple of hours. We both really needed that! He again woke up and come out into the back yard to help me get the clothes of the line and try and get him to have a game of ball. But Brody stayed outside for 2mins. He does not like the sun in his eyes and also has a issue with ants.

Brody used to love the outdoors as he would run around every where chasing the dog and chickens. He loved riding his bike and getting me to push him on the swing. You never saw him much inside. But now that has changed, he want even walk on the grass because of the ants. We put sunglasses on him and a hat and even still had a problem with the sun. It makes me sad that he cant enjoy what he once loved to do!!

Hospital clinic tommorrow, will be a big day, glad we got a rest today. Brody nose is running again, and he is still fighting this like a true hero. I love my son and am so proud of every thing he has gone through. xxxx

Out of Jail again!

After spending all morning running around the hospital collecting things and making appoinments and holding Brody down for a sharpie, eye drops and to change his dressing we finally got to go back home to Grandma's place. Now we are very tired and ready to go to bed early.

Brody is still doing well, which sometimes worries me as because of the Autism he dosent feel much pain or sickness, so you really never know if he is worse than he acts. We go back on Wednesday for another sharpie, chemo and most likely a blood tranfusion as his bloods were low today. It will be just for the day, unless he has any thing else wrong.

Brody has been really excited today now that he is home and loves to play with his grandpa. I would like to thank my parents for beening there for us, as they used to look after Brody when i went to Uni, my dad changed Brody's nappies as mum couldnt lift him. They let us live with them when we had no where to go and now they are looking after us and supporting us again. They havent had any time for themselves in the last 4 years, they are devoted to their family and put everyone before themselves. Love you mum and dad. xxxx
